Enhanced Recovery After Surgery Program (ERAS)
Know What To Expect
The Enhanced Recovery After Surgery Program (ERAS) uses a combination of the latest research and best practice guidelines to optimize surgical outcomes. ERAS maintains an important focus on patient participation throughout all the phases of surgical preparation, care, and recovery.
ERAS is a patient centered, evidenced-based program and team approach with defined pathways for each phase of surgical care including the pre-surgery, during surgery, and post-surgery. The goal of ERAS is to ensure that your surgery is a success, and you get back to doing what you love faster.
There are some easy-to-follow steps that you can take to be an active participant in your surgical care.
How does ERAS help you?
There are many important things to know when preparing for and recovering from surgery. ERAS can help educate you to make the right decisions and take proactive steps to ensure that your surgery is a success.
- Education – Teaching patients and their family about what to expect
- Optimization – Minimizing the body’s response to surgical stress
- Multi-Disciplinary – Coordinated care from experts across different specialties
- Pain Control – Adopting a multimodal medication approach to pain management
- Nutrition – Eating the right foods before and after surgery
- Mobility and Recovery – Moving around as soon as possible after your procedure
- Breathing Techniques – Preventing lung infections, pneumonia, or abdomen issues
- Outcomes – Eliminating or preventing postop complications
While everyone’s care journey with surgery is different, ERAS was
developed with the best recovery for you in mind.
